The first Dutch Vogue!

Though I'm not chauvinistic at all - as you'll probably know by now if you're a frequent visiter of my blog - there was a little feeling of pride that appeared when I opened up the very first Dutch Vogue. Our small country has launched a brand new Vogue in this hard times (economically I mean).

I have to admit I was a bit sceptical at first. The Netherlands, averse from too much luxury and always rather sober when it comes to fashion (firm believers in 'less is more') with a Vogue in the magazine shelves?

But I think the editorial staff (mainly ex-editors from the Dutch Glamour) did a great job. I haven't read the entire magazine yet - but I must say it looks good.

Will I be in this list of people one day?

The cover is very pretty, fits perfectly with the beginning of the spring. And the models are really Hollands finest: Romee Strijd, Ymre Stiekema and Josefien Rodermans (already called the perfect mixture of Freja Beha Erichsen and Arizona Muse). The other editorials are to die for as well, a lively Bette Franke and the gorgeous Alek Wek in a jeans shoot.

I must say I'm amazed and I'm already looking forward to the next issue. I think I will spend a lot of years reading and admiring the Vogue - untill one day I might be a part of the editorial staff. Don't be afraid to dream big. Right? ;)

My horoscope tells me it's gonna be a good month. And I always tend to take that very serious. Gold will rain over me - I surely hope so!

''I'll light you up and smoke you down and watch the rings go round and round''

There's something about it.. Something glamorous and exquisite about a cigarette in a photo. They already understood that over fifty years ago.
Cowboys smoking in cigarettes advertisements (when advertising tobacco was still allowed), James Dean laughing and smoking (nothing better than that), Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly lighting up a long, long cigarette or just fashion photos.
A few of my favourites.

INSPIRATION

Finally the day has (almost) come... I'm going shopping tomorrow (: that's has been a long time... The Monki is opening in Utrecht, so of course I had to be there. Can't wait to buy some new things for spring! Having said that, the weather was really wonderful today. I think a very lovely spring is about to begin...

Last two photos belong to The Glamourai

I really need round sunglasses and a touch of etnic!

Boogie Wonderland

Lately I can't stop listening to 70s music, especially funk and boogie.
I don't know what started it, but especially 'Boogie Wonderland', that's just amazing! You can't keep your feet on the ground when you hear that song ;)

So to stay in the mood I've also seen the classic dance movie 'Saturday Night Fever'. I had never seen this one before (I know, very bad), but I now know why my mom had a crush on John Travolta when she was young! As Tony, he's the king of the disco floor, a typical tough guy with a small heart. Though we all know the story (it's cliché but on the other hand, it wasn't back then), I think everyone can relate to it. Big dreams, small opportunities, having two sides of your character. Besides, the movie futured a beautiful part of New York, that is: Brooklyn! The beginning of the movie is really brilliant. Tony walking around New York at the tunes of 'Stayin' Alive'. Awesome.

And the most important thing; the music. The Bee Gees with 'Stayin' Alive', 'You should be dancin'', 'Night Fever' and the Trammps (rest in peace, Jimmy Ellis) with 'Disco Inferno'. I know, it all sounds so corny but you just have to listen to it and I'm sure you wish you was young in the seventies. To go out and dance on this kind of music. And that includes looking good of course. Maxi trousers (you're going to see them everywher this summer!), leopard prints and glitter dresses. Tony knew he had to look good as well, as he said: ''He hit my hair. I spend alot of time on my hair and he hits it, he hits my hair!'' You should be dancin!

Fashion Week Fall 2012 Favourites

Confident collection of Jason Wu, inspired by China.

Dolce & Gabbana go back to their roots, florals and prints are all over the place. Inspired by Italy.

Valentino is a synonym for elegance, but the house goes edgy by adding folkloristic details. I love it!

Irresistible beauty at Alexander McQueen. Sarah Burton did a great job, from soft and feminine to huge and booming. Delicious to look at, isn't it?

Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf brought the pyjamas to the jungle. It was feminine yet tough. And again Dutch beauties Bette Franke and Elza Luijendijk outshined everyone. From Prada (Elza) to Chanel (Bette); they walked every single runway!
