HAPPY NEW YEAR!

May all your wishes come true, have a marvellous evening and night ;)

Looking forward...

And what will 2012 bring us?

For me, it'll be:

- The year I turn 18. Exciting yet terrifying.
- The year I'm gonna move to Amsterdam. Yes, I'm going to a very poor student indeed.

- The year I'm going to university (if things work out the way they should).

Oh no, wait...

- The year I'll make a trip through Europe (Hello Paris, Cote d'Azur, Italy, Greece, Hongary (Sziget!), Munich, Swiss and many more places).

- The year I'll become rich. ;)
- The year I'll become famous.
- The year I'll become rich by being famous.

- The year I'll marry someone rich and famous (Josh Holloway aka Sawyer, perhaps?) ;)

And for the rest, let's see what comes on my path. Can't wait.

Enjoy your year, everyone.

Looking back...

On the verge of a new year I got to thinking (like Carrie would say) about last year. About all the things I experienced, some tough, some tougher, some good - some even better. Though 2012 has a whole lot of new things planned for me, 2011 was a hell of a year as well.

How can 2012 be better when 2011 was the year I went to both New York and Paris in a week? When 2011 was the year I went to Bulgaria with friends, which turned out to be great. When 2011 was the year I went to a lot of concerts (Selah Sue, on stage with Larry Graham) and three festivals (North Sea, Mundial and Lowlands!).

Of course 2011 wasn't just fun, it was also a year of school, work and stress.
But everything was worth it, let's celebrate this last night of 2011 and welcome a new marvelous year, full of pleasure, fun and success.

Baby you can drive my car

For a few months my dad has been working on a fabulous project. He's been very busy with it, put all of his energy in it (just like I always do, he kind of looks like me, my dad.. or is it the other way around?) but I'm sure the result will be marvellous.

What is it I'm talking about? Well, as I posted about a year ago, my dad is in advertisement. Not like you see it in 'Mad Men'(so not for an advertising agency) but he's dealing with the history of advertising. The only advertisement historian in the Netherlands in fact. But since, well, about a year, he's also a curator (he composes exhibitions). Last year he worked on 'Reclameklassiekers' about the classic Dutch advertising compains and this year he's working on: car advertisement.

The exhibition is called 'Blij dat ik Rij - 125 jaar autoreclame' (for my non-Dutch followers: 'Glad that I drive - 125 years of car advertisement') and will take place in the 'Louwman Museum' in The Hague from February 17 2012 until April 15 2012. And yes, I'm advertising the exhibition right here, so HELL YEAH, YOU SHOULD GO!

But another reason to go, is because the car advertisements you'll see, are really awesome. For instance, the Beetle (yes with an 'e') add on Abbey Road, known from the famous record of The Beatles. Other topics that will be shown are the early start of car advertisement (end of the 1800s), cars for women and cars for business.

And since you'll be there anyway in a couple of months, take a look at the catalogue as well. It shows you all the advertisements and, more important, I've co-operated on it.. for like, a little bit. I made the bibliography and I checked the pieces on obvious mistakes (cause concercing the content, I know nothing about cars or advertising, I just leave that to my dad).

Anyway, if you love cars, or if you love authentical adds, or if you just love to go to the Hague and have a lovely day, visit this exhibition. You don't even have to know that much of cars to go there, cause my dad, he doesn't even have a driving licence himself ;)

'Oh lord, won't you buy me, a Mercedes Benz?' as Janis Joplin once sang. I'm sure you have the same feeling once you've been there. Or alright, a Ford Mustang, Rolls-Royce or Cadillac will do as well.

And now, the end is near...

Not the end of the world (you still have to wait for that to happen until next year, exactly this date now I'm thinking about it) but the end of my exam week. Feels like I went through the same as I would if I'd face the end of the world ;)

Anyway, I'm sorry for the lack of posting this week! I promise to make it up to you, next week, once I have a bit more time and inspiration (since maths is definitely not inspiring). Keep you posted!

An ode to my grandma

It was five years ago.
The sun had dimmed it's light.
Slightly the stars made place for the moon.
Never I had seen the beginning of the night.
Somehow I could appreciate it more than a simple afternoon.

Once heaven opened it's doors, the sun was completely gone.
The moon was so bright, like I had never seen it before.
Quietly you walked away, and said goodbye to everyone.
The earth stood still for one moment, we could not ignore.

We could not ignore the fact that suddenly you slipped away.
Away from your house, away from our touch, away from today.
But forever you'll be with us, we bear you in mind, we bear you in soul.
The stars had covered the closing of the doors when suddenly I heard this loud howl.

It was a moving moment, a touching thrill made my body shiver.
I knew that you were waiting for me, just on the other side of the river.

I love you, I miss you and the fact that we share the same blood makes me proud.
I have to go now, but I promise to return here before the lights go out.

Paris vs. New York

Recently I saw this website about my two favourite cities. Of course you can guess the ones I'm talking about (if you cannot, consider testing whether you're sleepwalking or not, cause it's right there above your mouse in the search bar): Paris and New York of course!

It's very hard to choose between these phenomenal cities (though I have to admit that I love NY just a little bit more than Paris... but I love you too, Paris!) so the fabulous writer Vahram Muratyan has made a tally of the two cities. In each picture he compares Paris and New York.

I think this concept is very authentic, nice and above all very funny. I'm definitely going to order the book. Let me know what your final judgement is once you've taken a good look at the photos!
