ROADTRIP PART IX

What are you looking at?
This is the last part of the photo serie of our roadtrip.
All good things come to an end unfortunately, but the good part is that I'm living in Amsterdam now! So sad endings, good beginnings. I'll tell you more about that later!
1) The last supper. Eating sushi in Frankfurt, the German town we added to our planning because our favourite store 'Urban Outfitters' is there and it was on our way anyway!
2) Avalon eating sushi.
3) Home, sweet home. Despite the sad feelings of going back to Holland, this was an afternoon in paradise. Being in Urban Outfitters always makes me euphoric. The clothes, the jewellery, the books, the records...
4) A few things I bought (except the black bra): a warm and etnic vest and the red Levi's I've been searching for almost a year now.
5) Avalon completely satisfied with a gigantic bag after our trip through Urban Outfitters.
6) Jewellery I bought. Am crazy about elephants since recently, so I was very happy with this elephant ring.
7) The 'Bento Box' at the sushi restaurant. Had to photograph this, since my dad calls me 'Bento' every now and then. The sushi was delicious by the way!
8) Me on our way home. We had to stop in Dusseldorf as well, because the train had a delay, and we missed the last train to the Netherlands, et cetera. Quite the disaster, but we survived!
9) Not in the mood to go home, so we put our minds to something else ;)
10) One good thing about home: the amazing coffee at Douwe Egberts. Yeah, we really missed that.
11) The end of our vacation. We ate all the peanut butter, so it was time to go home. An empty pot, empty wallet and our energy levels were empty as well. But we got everything out of the vacation (probably can't even say it this way in English but my Dutch readers will understand!) and I now have to focus on making money for the trip next year. Can't wait (:

ROADTRIP PART VIII

What are you looking at?
1) The Janis Joplin Alley at Sziget
2) Sziget, finally! Though it took us two hours to get there (we didn't get the Budapest public transport, so we decided to walk. Not the right decision, it was like hell to walk that long after only a few hours sleep...)
3) And so it seemed we would miss The Roots but the program had changed so thank god, we saw them anyway, and they were amazing!
4) Just like the Dutch band Chef' Special.
5) Two handsome fellows, the guitarist and the lead singer :)
6) Chef' Special again
7) Vintage clothing at Sziget.
8) Almost buying a wonderful summer dress at American Apparel, till the realization came that summer's almost over...
9) Knödel, a typical German dish, in Munich.
10) Cake in Munich.
11) A Milka store in Munich.
12) Identity crisis... I didn't drink it, don't worry. But there was many, many beer at this festival in Munich. It looked a bit like a small Oktoberfest.
13) The house of my aunt and uncle in Munich.
14) Riding a bike again!
15) Avalon with a fabulous Milka cow.
16) Avalon and I in a park in Munich.
17) Eating in a beer garden ('Biergarten') with the family in Munich.
18) A typical Munich dish, something with lots of mushrooms. Tasted really good!
19) Me with my nephew and aunt in a very cute coffee bar.

ROADTRIP PART VII

What are you looking at?
1) Beautiful Budapest
2) Bentje en Aafje in beautiful Budapest
3) The Széchenyi Chain Bridge that spans the river Danube between Buda and Pest (we stayed in Pest). Reminds me a bit of the Brooklyn Bridge, can you imagine?
4) One of the lions with on the background the Parliament. Budapest was such a pleasant surprise to us.
5) Cool pub we ran into when we were lost again and looking for vintage stores.
6) Aubergine cream, a typical Hungarian lunch dish, tasted really good.
7) Oops, guess we drank a little bit too much champagne...
8) Having lunch at the 'Nothin' but the blues pub'
9) The overwhelming book café in the Paris Department Store. The interior is completely art nouveau, but the servants were a bit weird...
10) Me in Budapest.
11) Little lifts to the hills of Buda, Buda Castle.
12) Another great sight of the parliament.
13) Really funny until someone knocked on the window and made us run away very quickly. Well maybe that was the funniest part.
14) The streets of Budapest.
15) The City Market Hall with lots of beverages, fruits and souvenirs.
16) Aafje on another bridge.
17) Aafje fascinated by the 'secret box' the street vendor sold.
18) The Saint Stephen's Basilica.
19) The synagogue (largest of Europe), which we didn't see from the inside cause we didn't feel like going on another long tour.
20) Funny story: while we were discussing last night's pub crawl (our hostel organized pub crawls every night, that were amazing, the greatest people, wonderful pubs and clubs, can't imagine them when you're Dutch cause we don't have anything like that and every night a bit too much of the Hungarian drink Pálinka and the usual: cocktails) Avalon was suddenly quite and I was talking and then I saw the Saint Stephen's Basilica from the inside and I was like: WOOOOOOOAAAW. It really was the most beautiful church I had ever seen. Can have something to do with my love for gold and ornament, but it was just fabulous.
21) See 20.
22) Another beautiful building.
23) Frida Kahlo painting at the district where the vintage stores were.
