Reclameklassiekers

Recently, I told you I went to Amsterdam to see the opening of my dad's exhibition.
Well, he's not an artist nor has he got anything to do with art.
He's been working on this exhibition 'Reclameklassiekers' (Classic Advertisements you can call it, mind you, this is a free translation made by myself!) and the result was shown friday a week ago.

The opening was very exciting, some great speakers, like Peer Mascini, gave us a short college about advertisement. Unfortunately, the mayor of Amsterdam couldn't be there, because he had other things on his mind. How weird to say this, it makes me, or better said my dad, sound so important and famous, which isn't really that much (: Well important of course we are, we all are, but famous.. well, let's say, not yet. Haha, just kidding.

Anyway, the exhibition is wonderful. It focusses on television commercials and ads through the years. You will probably remember all the Calvé commercials with the little soccer boys in it, Flippo's, the WK dresses, 'Ik ga bij Japie wonen', Rolo (with the elephant) and 'Even Apeldoorn Bellen'.

If you don't know them, you should definitely go to this exhibition because you have to brush up your knowledge of advertisement, that's for sure. And if you do know them, go anyway, because it's fabulous and shows well how the advertisements have changed during the years, what themes are seen much in classic ads and commercials and above all, it's just really fun!

You can see it in the 'Beurs van Berlage', it's located next to the 'I Amsterdam' letters near the Dam. You can see it from, well now, untill February 27th in Amsterdam.

Sparks will fly, when I finally get myself back on you, baby

Hope you had marvelous christmas days!
I did, watched a lot of movies, and ate a lot of food (:
Today I went to a flea market and bought some records, a book, 7 dvd's (and really good ones, like Gran Torino, The Edge of Love and The Four Feathers - with Heath Ledger - and many more). I also bought an awesome deer antler on which I can hang all my necklaces.

wonderful christmas time

Crosses at Christmas

The Soul of Passion

Ramai, the friend with whom I go to all the concerts, recently wrote me this poem. I was really honoured - no one has ever written a poem for me!
I hope you like it - I must say I love it.

The soul of passion
Brilliant were the concerts I have seen with you.
Every time has been an amazing day.
Sometimes we had no idea where we went into,
but together we always found the most perfect way.

Extraordinary is your passion for your way of life.
The things you do have their own personal value.
Your interests are all coming alive,
cause you know they will come true.

Never, will the music stop inside your head.
The music will follow you everywhere.
It gives you power, it makes you so glad.
It's the passion you and your father always had.

Thousand times you're thinking
about your blog on the internet.
You're always busy which makes you sometimes upset,
but the busier you are, the better it seems,
to be with your friends and to fulfill your dreams.

Endlessly you'll keep fighting until the end.
I admire the strength of your soul and mind.
I'm just convinced you're one of a kind,
cause I know you are a true friend.

You should definitely check out his other poems here
I'm telling you, he's gonna write a book full with them one day, and then you heard it from me first ;)

I want to wish you a marvelous Christmas Eve!

like the river, I'll float...

No smoke without fire

There's no light without a flame,
There's no use in having you to blame.

No
There's no smoke without fire.

This movie is just brilliant.

Who'll follow up Carine Roitfeld?

One thing's for sure: it's gonna be tough.
She recently gave the reason for quitting her job as editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, she's more the freelance type. I can imagine but it's still a great loss, of course.
The former model and style icon has worked for a.o. Tom Ford, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

Gouden Loeki

It costed me stress, frustration and patience. And as you may know, I possess only little of the last element. It took me 4 hours to get from Den Bosch (the city where I live) to Amsterdam. Thank god I left early (around 3 o'clock) because it was horror at the station.
Due to the extreme winter weather the trains weren't leaving on time and on top of that, the NS also planned work on the trail.

It was very crowded in the train and we stopped at places I didn't even know they existed. At Amsterdaam Muiderpoort (only a few kilometres from Amsterdam Central Station) the train just stopped. We were in a traffic jam. We stood still for more than an hour. I was standing (all the seats were taken) on high heels (but very pretty, wedges, I'll show you a picture asap!) and I felt like the saddest girl on earth! ;)

What kept me from crying and upsetting was the fact that everybody felt the same. Everyone felt powerless and stressed because they all had somewhere to go to! Well, at 7 o'clock the train finally moved again and I arrived at Amsterdam Central Station.

My dad and I hurried to the Passenger Terminal where the broadcast of the 'Gouden Loeki' was held. The place looked amazing - exactly like those clubs you see in the movies (or Sex and the City). Very stylish and everyone was socializing. All those advertising people look a bit the same - the men are stylish with big glasses and they look very creative and almost every woman was blond and well-spoken. With glittery dresses. The dresscode was creative black tie.

There was food and wine, mojito's and great music. That was for the afterparty.

The program itself was great. The commercial 'Pietertje' of the famous peanutbutter Calvé won the price. I was satisfied - I voted for that one.

After the show I asked my dad to make some pictures and he urged me to go to the winner of the 'Gouden Loeki' to ask if I could hold the price. He found it very nice so it shows you should always take the step and don't hold back ;)

It had been a long day and my dad and I went to our hotel - in the middle of Amsterdam - magnificent!

Crossing the line to eternal freedom - the flame never goes out

Lovely Lights in Amsterdam

All photos by me

What a great weekend, Amsterdam is defenitely going to be my new hometown.

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Looking forward to this weekend!
Tomorrow I'm going to Amsterdam, make lots of photos and in the evening, I'm going to the 'Gouden Loeki' (a Dutch advertisement award show). My dad works in that business (you should really check out www.reclameklassiekers.nl) and I got to join him (:
I bought a lovely dress, amazing shoes (a photo is coming soon!) and I'm very excited.
We'll sleep in a hotel in Amsterdam because we have to be at the opening of my dad's exhibition the next morning. It's in a big building in Amsterdam, called 'Beurs van Berlage'. Hope I'll have a bit of time to go shopping as well! Anyway, my dad isn't some artist or anything like it, but he has compiled the exhibition. It's about classic advertisements (tv, magazines and radio). He's been working on it for ages now so saturday we'll see what the result is!

Wicked Waylon

Concert Waylon @ De Pul, Uden.
We were totally lost but found it eventually and it was an amazing concert!
I love the fact Waylon isn't one of those typical Idols/Popstars/Voice of Holland, etc. kind of stars that have one minute of fame and then lose their identity. Waylon isn't affected and rocks the stage!
